What makes an "audience"? Can I target by gender? Location? Race?

Audiences in Auware align with Meta targeting. You can target by interests, gender, age, or location. Race-based audiences are not allowed to ensure brand safety and protect customer trust.

Auware, an audience is defined the same way most marketers already think about audiences inside Meta, TikTok, or Google Ads.

An audience can be based on interests, behaviors, demographics, or geography. The goal is to group together people who share common motivations or circumstances that influence how they buy. By creating landing pages that speak directly to those groups, you dramatically increase the likelihood of conversion.

Yes, you can target audiences by gender or age group. These are standard demographic filters that exist in Meta Marketing and other ad platforms, and Auware supports them as part of the campaign workflow. Location is also a valid audience. For example, you might create different landing pages for shoppers in California and Texas if your product’s appeal or availability varies by region. Geographic audiences could be as broad as an entire country or as narrow as a single state or city, depending on your campaign strategy.

Where we draw the line is race. Auware does not allow audiences based on a person’s race. While Meta and other platforms have placed restrictions in sensitive areas like housing, employment, and credit ads, we have taken a firm stance across the board when it comes to race. The reason is brand safety. Allowing AI to generate race-specific landing pages creates too much risk of producing content that feels discriminatory, stereotypical, or harmful. Even if unintentional, those outcomes could damage both your brand and your customer trust.

Instead, Auware focuses on audiences that can be targeted safely and effectively in digital advertising. These include interest-based groups such as “home chefs,” “outdoor enthusiasts,” or “budget-conscious consumers.” They also include demographic and geographic groups like “women ages 25-40” or “shoppers in New York.” These types of audiences are actionable in ad platforms, they align with how marketers already run campaigns, and they avoid the risks of using sensitive characteristics that could create problems.

To summarize, an audience in Auware can be built on interests, demographics like gender or age, and geographic targeting. Race-based audiences are not allowed for brand safety reasons.
