Your customer data is stored entirely in Shopify.
Auware does not access or store customer information at any point. This is an intentional design choice that reflects both our commitment to data privacy and our belief that agencies should have tools that are powerful without being invasive. Shopify remains the system of record for all sensitive customer information, including names, emails, addresses, and payment details.
What Auware does capture is only what is necessary for campaign reporting and attribution. When someone visits an Auware landing page, we use Shopify App Proxies to securely record that interaction. These proxies route data through Shopify itself before it is passed to Auware, ensuring that no sensitive information is exposed. For orders, we use the Shopify Orders API to identify transactions that originated from Auware pages. Those orders are tagged with “Auware,” and we collect only non-personal performance details such as order date and order total. This allows us to report on revenue, ROAS, and conversion performance without ever storing customer-level data.
The difference is important. Many eCommerce tools promise “personalization” by pulling customer data into their own systems. That approach often creates security risks and compliance concerns. By contrast, Auware avoids this completely. We do not sync customer profiles, download email addresses, or attempt to recreate Shopify’s database. We simply capture the minimum performance data needed to show agencies how campaigns are working. This keeps Auware lightweight, reliable, and compliant with privacy best practices.
For agencies, this design provides peace of mind. You can reassure your clients that installing Auware does not expose customer information to a third-party system. The data you see in Auware is aggregate performance data tied to campaigns and audiences, not personally identifiable information about individual customers. Even if someone visits an Auware page multiple times or completes multiple orders, the information remains at the reporting level, never at the profile level.
This also means that Auware does not create conflicts with other systems your clients may be using. If they rely on a CRM, email platform, or loyalty app to manage customer data, Auware does not interfere. Those tools continue to work as they always have, while Auware focuses exclusively on delivering accurate campaign reporting. By limiting the data we handle, we also reduce the risk of future compatibility issues as Shopify updates its API policies.
Another benefit is long-term store stability. Apps that copy or store customer data externally can create headaches during uninstall or migration. Auware leaves no such footprint. If you uninstall Auware, all campaigns and related reporting data are deleted, and your store remains exactly as it was. Shopify continues to be the sole system housing customer records, with no additional cleanup required.
In short, your customer data is never stored in Auware. It remains securely in Shopify, where it belongs. Auware only pulls high-level performance data, such as visits, order totals, and order dates, to give agencies robust reporting. This approach ensures privacy, reduces risk, and keeps your clients’ trust intact.
